Circular No 4/2019 Clarification regarding liability and status of official assignees under income tax act
Circular No. 4/2019 (CBDT) clarifies the tax liability and status of Official Assignees under the Income-tax Act. It states that an Official Assignee, appointed to manage the estate of an insolvent person, is treated as a representative assessee and is responsible for complying with tax provisions, including filing returns and paying tax on behalf of the insolvent individual’s estate.
